Chair Trees

The Chree Show | June 6 – July 29

I am very excited to see the very first Chree Show out of my head and into such a beautiful gallery. The Chrees Show will be on display June 6 – July 29 at the BAAC Gallery on Main (226 E Main St. Batesville, AR). I have selected 23 of my best work, including large-scale pieces and a site-specific sculpture, for a show unlike anything else you’ll see. I’m really proud to bring this show to the region. The first of many in my future.

Please join me for the gallery reception on Friday, June 30, 5 – 7 p.m. with a brief artist talk at 6 p.m.

This exhibition is free and open to the public during BAAC’s regular gallery hours, Tuesday – Friday 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., and Saturday 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Printmaking Weekend

It’s been a while since I’ve done any kind of printmaking, but over the weekend I went a little print crazy. I was only planning to do one 3 color print, but I got a little carried away and did two additional prints. Radiate, Consequence and Exposed. All are 6×4″ linocuts using the pink blocks that I have never used before. While they are excellent to cut, the printing was a bit difficult because of their flexibility. I think I would use these again in the future but maybe in conjunction with the typical wood-backed blocks for smaller, fully-cut details. Or possibly back the pink blocks.

At any rate, it was a learning experience and I am already looking forward to more printing in my future.

The Chair Trees

Everyone always asks, what’s with the chair trees?

What do Chair Trees mean to me? Well, to me, the visual of a chair emerging from a tree represents the imagination. How one can be sitting in a chair, yet their mind is expanding out into the world.  Each thought, a new idea, floating in the current of thoughts.

Recently, I went to South Korea and the imagery there really impressed me with it’s colors and strong graphic elements. This brought out a lot of inspiration and these recent chair trees have a heavy Korean look.
